Chartered in 1945 and named after the first Rothschild Wi resident casualty of WW II , USAAC crewman Roy L Drew. The Post has a long history of providing assistance to Veterans, Youth and our Community.

With the LEGION act ( passed into law on July 30th 2019). All Honorably Discharged Veterans Including AGR/or those still serving part time, with a TITLE 10 deployment are eligible to join. If you are not sure, come to one of our meetings, if you like what you see and like what the Legion does, we can help you get signed up.

We are centrally located south of the Wausau area. While we mainly serve the Rothschild, Weston , Schofield area, we also cover the Mosinee and Kronenwetter area’s as well.

We have a Color Guard. We sponsor a Girls Legion Softball team, and provide a Color Guard for their home games. We also do Color Guard for the DC Everest Youth Baseball Cal Ripken tournaments at Kennedy Park every summer.

We do several community parades including Mosinee, Edgar, Athens and Marathon.

We sponsor Badger State Boys and Girls students from the DC Everest School District as well as the Mosinee School District. We fund raise for Scholarships and provide assistance for Veterans. We also have adopted Fox Co. 132 BSB in Mosinee ( ANG) and have assisted their soldiers and family’s when they have reached out for help.

Our mailing address is 211 Grand Ave. Rothschild Wi, 54474. Which is the new Rothschild Village Hall , Library and Police Dept.

Most of our Monthly meetings are held in the community room. We do have two meetings in Mosinee to be accessible to the Mosinee members and are currently held at Gorski’s Restaurant in June and December. The meetings start at 1900 (7pm) unless noted. See 6 month calendar below.

We have a Son’s of the American Legion Squadron and an Auxiliary.

The American Legion also has the American Legion Riders Association – Veterans Serving and Riding for their community. Did You Know? American Legion Post 492 has one of only 4 Andrew Chernak Gold Star Mothers Statues in the entire United States. Of the four, we have the only one west of New York . It was the dream of Vietnam Veteran Joe Kelbley to honor the families of the fallen. After a lot of hard work we dedicated the statue on Gold Star Mothers Sunday in 2020. It is at 211 Grand Ave in Rothschild Wi at Post 492 Veterans Park. Sadly Joe passed away in 2021 – but he got to see his dream fulfilled. To see more of Andrews work click on this link.
